“The Heretic’s Fork” by maggie mae-hymn

Determined

You wonder where it started,
his appetite for pain.
Was he once pure-hearted?
Whence, this cruel strain?

From tender years he was
a terror to his peers,
his name synonymous
with anguish in your ears.

His playthings offer two
varieties – those keen
to suffer for virtue
he gave the name Justine;

while those named Juliette
prosper in their vice,
giving as they get,
but either serve as nice.

If you pay close attention
he teaches what he’s learned.
Love is an invention.
Liberty is earned.

He realized early on:
Salvation is a sin,
& Pain depends upon
permission from the skin.
