Uche Ogbuji: Home

[news] I finally got with the program and started up a blog, with Chime. It's Copia -- Ogbujis on just about everything. Much more, and much more that's current, over on Copia.

I'm a Nigerian immigrant (ca. 1990) computer engineer, writer and aspiring poet. Currently I live in Superior, Colorado (Boulder County). This page offers some notes on me, my family, my interests and my careers.

Family

Lori and I were married 16 November 1996. Our son Osita was born 10 February 2000. My parents, Dr. Linus and Mrs. Margaret Ogbuji, live in Cleveland, Ohio where my father is a Materials Engineering researcher at NASA Lewis Research Center and my mother is an RN at University Hospitals. Chimezie, my younger brother, works with me at Fourthought as a consultant, living in Boulder, and my youngest brother, Ejike, is in college in Cleveland.

Career the second (Fourthought)

On June 1, 1998, I and three of my college friends (including Mike Olson) founded Fourthought, Inc., a computer consultancy.

Fourthought specializes in XML technology strategy and software. We assist clients with strategy, software design and development. We also develop, distribute and support (freely and commercially) 4Suite, an open-source platform for XML development, written in Python and C. Python happens to be a favorite programming language at Fourthought because of its clarity, expressive power, and broad support.

As an XML specialist I wander about conferences speaking on the topic, and I write articles and columns on XML for outfits including IBM developerWorks, ITWorld, XML.com, Application Development Trends, New Architect, webservices.org, Intel Developer journal and many more. I am an editor of xmlhack.

I studied Electronic Engineering (not entirely successfully) at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka for three years before moving on to graduate in Computer Engineering at Milwaukee School of Engineering in February, 1994.

Career the first (Cara Musis)

Although Fourthought takes pretty much all my time these days, my true passion is literature, and poetry in particular. I'd have striven towards a writing career if my parents hadn't convinced me with the usual parental sense that I might want to secure a more economically assured background first.

Cara Musis a site for the exploration of traditional literary craft, with emphasis on both European and African traditions, in addition to wider catholic ambitions.

Life

I live with Lori and Osi in Superior, Colorado, just south of Boulder in the Front Range region of the Rocky Mountains. The climate, culture and recreation are beyond reproach. The mountains are majestic beyond the boasting of jingoistic songs. The air is the crispest and cleanest I've enjoyed in any urban region of the US.

I play football (the real sort) for sport in Summer and I snowboard in Winter (often along with Lori). Otherwise, I read or listen to music (well I always listen to music). I'm a first-generation hip-hopper, from when it wasn't cool and was a wonderful outlet for those who never quite fit into things. Now that rap has gone mainstream, I stick to what my vain colleagues would still call "hip-hop". The inspired stuff spanning from Grandmaster Flash through BDP and Ultramagnetic MCs to Mos Def, Talib Kweli and The Roots. Other than that, I listen to anything that's good music, from Country to Ska to Classical music to Pop.
