Sandpipers dance along the water’s edge.
Along the water’s edge sandpipers dance,
and I watch as they watch,
and they watch as I watch.
I watch sandpipers dance,
and they watch along the water’s edge as

jellyfish, tangled by the surf,
by the surf tangled jellyfish
tumble, their tentacles jumble,
their jumble-tumble tentacles
tangled by the surf, their jellyfish
tentacles tumble jumble

up and down in topsy-turvy waves,
topsy up and turvy down in waves
that beckon me down by the seashore,
by the seashore, that beckon me down,
down by the seashore, waves down and up
that topsy turvy beckon me in.

Sandpipers dance and jumble up
and down along the water’s edge.
They watch by waves that beckon me
as I watch tangled tentacles,
their turvy-topsy tumble in the fishjelly surf,
by down the shoresea.

Patti McCarty likes to play “the high and challenging game of form.”
