Sarah Colona
Bitch
There are three kinds of people in this world:
Takers, who are easy to identify,
Givers, god bless them, who are rarely found,
And takers in givers’ clothing, like me,
Who do not wish to be unmasked; but then,
No one likes to be what they claim to hate.
I found out too late to navigate life
Without hurting the givers. Like children,
They forgave so quickly: tried to erase
Stinging lines I’d drawn from their hearts to mine.
I became a beast they tried to tame — snarled
And bit givers that fed me. I allowed
One to come so close that I licked his palm.
He bought a scar for the price of my lie.
